🍺 Starting a bar in Florence, AL: which licenses and registrations do I need?

Lakeia wrote: β€œI want to open an all-ladies lounge in a small town in Alabama with nothing to do when we clock out. After a long workday, you can relax with some wine with your girlfriends without worrying about being hit on. I plan to have a different theme each day of the week.”

Hi Lakeia, 2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar is off to a smart start by getting the paperwork right first. Trivia nights, game-day specials, and live bands turn quiet weeknights into packed rooms and give your place a personality. Because you want to limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt, look more credible to customers and banks and manage self-employment tax, we start with the LLC and build everything else around it. Here is what we will cover: how to structure 2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar, the tax IDs it needs, and the licenses that let you open in Florence, then a quick recap.

An all-ladies lounge with theme nights is a strong concept, but the license that decides everything is the alcohol license for on-premises wine, beer, or liquor, and it usually comes after you have a lease and a floor plan, so sequence your steps carefully. Be careful with the ladies-only policy: rules about turning away customers because of sex can apply to places open to the public, so ask an attorney whether a private membership model fits. A DJ or live music on theme nights adds music licensing. With four employees, you will open Alabama withholding and unemployment accounts. Liquor liability insurance and an LLC are the right shield. What 2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar needs LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC shields your house, car, and savings from claims against the business, and it looks more established to customers and banks. If an over-served patron causes a crash on the drive home, an LLC helps keep that serious claim tied to the bar. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it.DBA (doing business as) registration – If you operate as a sole proprietor, or under a name different from your LLC's exact legal name, registering "2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar" lets you use it on signs, invoices, and your business bank account.EIN (federal tax ID number) – You plan on 4 employees, so the federal tax ID number (EIN) is required for payroll, and you will also use it for the business bank account and supplier accounts.Alabama sales tax permit (seller's permit) – You will be selling taxable goods, so register to collect sales tax before your first sale. It also lets you buy inventory for resale without paying tax on it.Alabama employer ID – With 4 employees, you need a state employer account number for payroll withholding and unemployment insurance. It works like the EIN, but for state payroll taxes.Business license – Most places require a local business license to operate, including home-based businesses. Check the rules where 2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar will operate in Florence, and ask about home occupation and zoning rules if you work from home. Expect a health inspection of the kitchen, truck, or premises; renting time in a licensed commercial kitchen is a common way to start.Liquor license – Every bar needs a liquor license, which can take months to obtain and is capped in number in some areas.Food service permit – Serving even simple bar food usually brings a food permit and a kitchen inspection.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a bar it is NAICS 722410 (Drinking Places, Alcoholic Beverages). With 4 employees planned, you are already creating jobs in Florence. That makes 8 items on your list.

Tip: Begin the liquor license application the moment you have a location, since public notice periods and hearings can stretch for months.

To recap: 2 Shaye's Lounge/Bar in Florence, AL needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit, a state employer ID, a business license, liquor license, and food service permit. Get those in place and you can spend your time on customers instead of paperwork.

We can form your LLC and file the other registrations for you: start here....

Starting a bar in Delphos, OH: which licenses and registrations do I need?

The owner wrote: “I own a bar. We sell alcohol to customers from a privately owned building.”

Smokin Chrome Saloon sounds like a promising venture. A good neighborhood bar becomes a second living room, where regulars know the bartender by name and bring their friends along. Since your goals are to protect your personal assets, limit exposure from sales, clients, employees, or debt and look more credible to customers and banks, the LLC sits at the center of this plan. Below we walk through the three things every new business in Ohio sorts out (structure, tax IDs, and licenses) and then sum it all up.

A bar in Delphos lives or dies on its license, so before any new owner or entity touches the building, the liquor permit has to be in the name of whoever is actually serving drinks. In Ohio, putting your saloon inside an LLC usually means applying for the liquor permit under the LLC's name, so plan the timing carefully. Serving alcohol brings the risk of a customer who drives home impaired, which is why liquor liability insurance is not optional and why you ticked asset protection and limited exposure. Ohio taxes food and drink sales, so a vendor's license is part of the setup, and bartenders you hire mean a payroll account.

What Smokin Chrome Saloon needs

  1. LLC (limited liability company) – An LLC keeps business debts and lawsuits separate from your personal home and savings. When a scuffle between customers leaves someone with a broken jaw, the lawsuit belongs to the business entity rather than your family. Once profits grow, an LLC can elect S corporation tax treatment, which can lower self-employment tax; ask a tax adviser when the numbers justify it.
  2. DBA (doing business as) registration – If you operate as a sole proprietor, or under a name different from your LLC's exact legal name, registering "Smokin Chrome Saloon" lets you use it on signs, invoices, and your business bank account.
  3. EIN (federal tax ID number) – Think of the EIN as a Social Security number for the business: banks, suppliers, and clients who send you tax forms will all ask for it.
  4. Ohio vendor's license – You will be selling taxable goods, so register to collect sales tax before your first sale. It also lets you buy inventory for resale without paying tax on it.
  5. Business license – A business license puts Smokin Chrome Saloon on the official map in Delphos, which landlords, banks, and many customers will expect to see before they sign anything. Expect a health inspection of the kitchen, truck, or premises; renting time in a licensed commercial kitchen is a common way to start.
  6. Liquor license – Every bar needs a liquor license, which can take months to obtain and is capped in number in some areas.
  7. Food service permit – Serving even simple bar food usually brings a food permit and a kitchen inspection.

By the numbers: Banks, insurers, and tax forms will ask for your industry code. For a bar it is NAICS 722410 (Drinking Places, Alcoholic Beverages). That makes 7 items on your list.

Tip: Buy liquor liability insurance and teach bartenders to spot and cut off visibly intoxicated guests politely but firmly.

To recap: Smokin Chrome Saloon in Delphos, OH needs an LLC, a DBA, an EIN, a sales tax permit, a business license, liquor license, and food service permit. Check them off one by one and you will open with confidence.

We can form your LLC and file the other registrations for you: start here.

I need advice on business insurance, finding investors, a website and advertising for my record label. Does the LLC service include the state fee and an operating agreement?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

For a record label, an LLC is the right base. You handle artists' contracts, royalties and releases, and the LLC separates any dispute from your personal assets. The state's filing charge is shown apart from our service fee on the order page, and the operating agreement is prepared with your LLC, so your bank can open the account.

• Insurance: ask an insurance agent about general liability and media liability for a label, plus coverage for equipment.
• Investors: they usually want a formed LLC, an operating agreement and clean books first, then a clear plan for how their money is used.
• Website and advertising: register the name and open the bank account before you spend on promotion.

A surety bond is not what you need. Insurance protects you from claims, while bonds guarantee performance in certain regulated trades.

Do I need an LLC and a tax ID if my items are not taxable in my state? I also need to register a business at an address in Georgia.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Yes, an LLC still makes sense even when your products are not taxable. Taxability is only about sales tax, while the LLC is about protecting your personal assets from product and customer claims, and about credibility. With investors in mind, a formal company is what they will want to see.

On the tax ID, you still need an EIN for banking and federal taxes, since that is separate from sales tax. A seller's permit may not be needed if everything you sell is exempt, but many suppliers and marketplaces still ask for one, so check with them. Health and beauty products can be taxable in other places, so check where you sell.

For the Georgia address, I cannot supply an office location. Register the business at the real place where you operate, or use a registered agent's address for state papers. A local business license depends on that location.

I live in New York and want to start a mobile petting zoo. I also want to sell gift baskets by taking the order and having a company ship it. What do I need, and can I charge sales tax?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

A mobile petting zoo carries real risk, since children and animals mix and a bite or a fall could lead to a claim. An LLC is the proper vehicle, because it separates that exposure from your personal assets, and it can bring in investors. A foreign owner is fine for an LLC.

• Petting zoo: animal exhibits are regulated, so expect animal health paperwork, permits for events, and liability insurance that venues will ask for.
• Business license, locally, plus approvals for each event location.
• EIN, for banking and taxes.

For the gift baskets, to charge sales tax you need a seller's permit, which in New York is registered as a certificate of authority. Even if you never touch the product or the money, if you take the order and your company is the seller, you generally must be registered to collect tax. If the other company is the seller of record, it may handle that, so clarify who sells.

How long does it take to get a reseller's permit in New York with expedited service? I do not have a certificate of authority for my LLC. I also have questions about zoning for a home inspection business.
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

In New York, the sales tax registration is called a certificate of authority, and a reseller's permit is built on it, so you do need one for your LLC. We can file it with expedited handling, which moves faster than standard processing, but I cannot promise a specific number of days because timing depends on the application.

Home inspection is a service, so the permit matters mainly if you also sell products or tools that are taxable. Your LLC fits the business well: inspectors face claims when something is missed, and the LLC separates those from your personal assets.

• Zoning: a home office is usually allowed, but you do not need a vote from the town council in most cases. Ask locally whether a home occupation approval applies.
• Professional license: home inspectors are licensed in many places, so confirm before you take clients.

File the certificate of authority well before your first sale, since New York asks that you register in advance.

What license do I need to buy seafood in Louisiana, transport it to Tennessee and sell it to restaurants and the public, and do I need a wholesale license?
10/14/2026 5:04 AM

Form an LLC before anything else. Moving fresh shrimp and other seafood across state lines involves spoilage, illness and vehicle risks, and the LLC protects your personal assets while showing restaurants that they are dealing with an established company. A foreign owner can hold an LLC, too.

• EIN, for the account, payroll and supplier accounts.
• Seller's permit: it works as your wholesale and resale registration, so you can buy without tax and sell with tax. You may need one wherever you sell.
• Seafood dealer permit: seafood is regulated at each step, including buying, cold storage and delivery, so ask where your product is sourced and sold.
• Business license, locally.

Whether you open a fish market or a restaurant, each needs its own food permits and inspections.
